Abdanan is one of the important cities of Ilam province and the center of Abdanan city. This city is famous for its pristine nature, fertile soil and ancient attractions. Abdanan is located on the southern slope of Kabirkoh and in the valley of Abdanan river. Darehshahr from the northeast, Mime Dehlran from the north, Dehlran from the west and Andimeshk from the south are located in the neighborhood of this city.
Abdanan has hot summers and cold winters, and it experiences very hot summer weather on almost 20 days of the freezing winter season and 20 days of the summer season. Due to the presence of sufficient water and fertile soil, spring is the most beautiful and best season to travel to this region.
In 1374, Abdanan was officially separated from Dareh Shahr and registered as an independent city in the country divisions.
Despite the fact that Abdanan has huge mines of oil, gas, sulfur and hot water springs, these resources have not been exploited much, and the most important industry of the people of the region is agriculture and livestock breeding.
Abdanan tourism destinations include historical and natural attractions. Hazardar Castle, Pushtkala, Zhansadi Castle, the remains of the ancient city of Julian (or in the local language, Gilio), the historical complex of the Five Brothers Murmuri, the historical city of Tellur and the historical city of Sarab are among the most important historical and ancient destinations of this city. Also, the Siagav twin lake, Mahote waterfall, Mejareh cave, Chamchalan tourist area and Dinarkoh natural resort are its natural attractions.
The location of this city and its location in the valley between two mountains, Dinarkoh and Kabirkoh, have made it difficult for Abdanan to connect with the surrounding areas and the center of the country. The most important way of connecting Abdanan with the surrounding areas is the Abdanan route to Dareh Shahr Valley, which, despite being winding, has become one of the tourist destinations of this city in the spring season with its beautiful and unspoiled scenery.
This special location and the difficulty of the communication ways have also brought attractions to the region, including the virgin nature covered with oak, almond, pistachio, hawthorn, fig and wild cherry trees.
The main population of this city is made up of "Ler" and "Lek" tribes, most of whom are engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry, and their religion is Jafari Shia.
The nature of Abdanan is covered with mountain pistachio trees, which are called "Bane" in the local language and are one of the foods that travelers buy as souvenirs from this city. Giveh, carpet, mountain honey, local sweets and breads, and tarkhine are other souvenirs of Abdanan.
